__About the Artists__
WHOLE9 members simo and hitch began working together after completing their degrees in illustration & design at the Osaka University of Arts. While heavily influenced by street art, WHOLE9 predominantly uses brushes rather than spray paint, refining brushwork techniques which aim to maintain detail and depth in high-speed large scale works. The lines, soft light and shading of their work stylistically reflect Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Their work combines hitch’s representational images of urban living and fantastical creatures, with the energetic color of simo’s intricate geometry.
